- ABOUT THE GARMENT
PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
To knit this vest, you need to know how to provisionally cast on, knit, purl, bind off, make air increases (those normally used for armholes), pick up stitches, knit flat, and be familiar with the slipped stitch technique and simple lace. It is essential to know how to read charts, as the instructions for knitting the front motif are given only in chart form.
CONSTRUCTION
This vest is constructed top-down with no seams. It begins by knitting the neck with a provisional cast-on, continues with the back, leaving the stitches on hold when the armhole length is reached. Then, the provisional cast-on is picked up again to knit the neck part of the button placket, after which stitches are picked up at the shoulders, these stitches are then picked up again, and the fronts are knitted separately, but they can be done simultaneously, depending on the knitter. Once the necessary length to the armholes is reached, the 2 front pieces and the back are joined, and the vest continues to be knitted flat until the bottom elastic.
