- ABOUT THE GARMENT
Saturday, January 24 · A Coruña
Schedule: 11:00 to 18:00
Duration: 7 hours; 6 hours of in-person training, 1 hour for lunch
Includes: lunch and materials for knitting in the workshop (except needles, but we will write to you a few days before to tell you which ones to bring)
Spaces: limited
Shawls are often that project many knitters put off for "later."
We get stuck and think it's better to keep knitting easy things, especially if you knit with straight needles and patterns feature the dreaded circular needles.
Because you don't know where to start.
Because charts are intimidating.
Because you're not sure why some shawls grow in one direction and others in another, and you're terrified of not understanding the patterns.
Or because you tried once, and it didn't turn out as you expected.
This experience was created precisely for that reason.
To sit with me, the designer of Lalura , in our space, and finally understand how shawls are constructed and knitted, calmly, with needles in hand and with someone by your side who has been designing and explaining knitting for over 10 years.
It's not a design course.
It's not a beginner level, but you only need to know how to knit and purl.
It's an experience designed so that, from now on, you'll be able to knit any shawl, because you'll understand how they work and what decisions are behind each one. And furthermore, you'll do it in a carefully curated environment, with good company, coffee, herbal teas, and our homemade orange and chocolate cake. You'll leave with your head full of ideas and your hands eager to knit.
During 6 hours of in-person workshop, we will work together on:
-
Cast-on methods: garter tab, i-cord and its variations
-
The three main shawl constructions: top-down, bottom-up, and side-to-side
-
Increases and decreases: when, how, and why
-
Reading shawl charts, fearlessly
-
Finishing: how to block a shawl and what changes when you do it right
-
Yarn types: which ones work better or worse depending on the desired result
-
Needles and markers: when and why to use them
We will answer all your questions, because in this experience you come to understand, to gain confidence, and to leave knitting with an informed approach one of the most versatile garments in knitting.
And between stitches, you will be in our Lalura space, a place designed to spend the day learning and enjoying: with tea, coffee, our homemade orange and chocolate cake, an included lunch, good conversation and that atmosphere that makes you learn more because you feel comfortable.
If you knit and have been thinking "shawls resist me" for a while, this day is for you.
And yes, it is exactly the kind of experience that makes it worthwhile to come to A Coruña, even from outside (there are flights from Madrid and Barcelona to come first thing in the morning and return last thing at night).
