To knit this top, you need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl, hold stitches, pick up and re-knit stitches, make increases, make decreases, use lace techniques, and bind off stitches. It is essential to be able to read charts, as the instructions for knitting the lace motifs are only given in chart form.

CONSTRUCTION

This is a bottom-up top/vest, meaning it is knitted from the bottom up. First, the ribbing is knitted, then the body is knitted in the round up to the armholes, where the front and back are separated and knitted flat up to the shoulders, which are closed using the grafting method. A small finish is made on the remaining stitches for the neckline, and finally, the stitches are picked up and knitted in ribbing to finish the armholes.

GAUGE

24 stitches and 30 rows for a 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4”] swatch in stockinette stitch, UNBLOCKED.

NEEDLES

3.5 mm [US 4] circular needles and 80 cm [32”] cable or the size needed to obtain the gauge for the body of the top. Needles one size smaller for the ribbing and for picking up stitches at the armholes.

1 stitch marker for the beginning of the round, 1 stitch marker for the beginning of the back, 2 stitch markers for the central motif. Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

USE AND WASHING INSTRUCTIONS

Our garments do not require frequent washing due to their natural composition; simply air the garment on a clothesline overnight, and any odors will dissipate.
