To knit this top, you need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl, hold stitches, pick up and resume stitches, make increases, make decreases, perform lace techniques, and bind off stitches. It is essential to be able to read charts, as the instructions for knitting the lace motifs are given only in chart form.

CONSTRUCTION

This is a bottom-up top/vest, meaning it is knit from the bottom up. First, the ribbing is knit, then the body is knit in the round up to the armholes where the front and back are separated. These are then knit flat up to the shoulders, which are joined using the grafting method. A small finishing is made on the remaining stitches for the neckline, and finally, stitches are picked up and knit in ribbing to finish the armholes.

24 stitches and 30 rows for a 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4”] swatch in stockinette stitch, UNBLOCKED.

NEEDLES

3.5 mm [US 4] circular needles with an 80 cm [32”] cable or the size needed to obtain gauge for the body of the top. Needles one size smaller for the ribbing and for picking up stitches for the armholes.

CARE AND WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
