To knit this top, you need to know how to cast on, knit and purl, hold stitches, pick up and resume stitches, increase, decrease, work lace techniques, and bind off. It is essential to be able to read charts, as the instructions for knitting the lace patterns are given only in chart form.

To knit this top/vest, you need to know how to knit, purl, knit in the round, make increases by casting on stitches, pick up stitches, know lace techniques, the long-tail cast-on, the Italian bind-off, and kitchener stitch. It is essential to be able to read charts, as the instructions for knitting the lace patterns are given only in chart form. 

CONSTRUCTION

This is a bottom-up top/vest, meaning it is knit from the bottom up. First, the ribbing is knit, then the body is knit in the round until the armholes, where the front and back are separated. These are then knit flat up to the shoulders, which are closed with the kitchener stitch method. A small finish is made on the remaining stitches for the neckline, and finally, stitches are picked up and knit in ribbing to finish the armholes.

Garment bust circumference: 130 cm [51.25”].

Height from armhole: 35 cm [13.75”].

GAUGE

24 stitches and 30 rows for a 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4”] swatch in stockinette stitch, UNBLOCKED.

NEEDLES

3.5 mm [US 4] circular needles with an 80 cm [32”] cable or the size needed to obtain the gauge for the body of the top. Needles one size smaller for the ribbing and for picking up stitches at the armholes.
